Year 2011

Refurbishment and extension of Charles Negre Multimedia Library, Grasse, France

    Competition 2011. Finalists

The project includes the construction of a new multimedia library by rehabilitating some buildings and making a new one.

The intervention, in the city’s old town, was of great difficulty due to its pronounced topography and because one of the buildings had to be traversed by a pedestrian street. Also, the project called for the reorganization of the entire plot due to a large slope. The project’s intention is to insert the building in its location enriching the urban scene through the achieving of an interconnection between the building and a new pedestrian street network.

The interior spaces also benefit from this new layout, being open and providing double height spaces such as the exhibition room.

On its exterior, the building integrates to the main street preserving and restoring the existing facades, whilst to the interior of the plot new facades are projected.
